Spyderco's ultra-slim Ikuchi is a radically different approach to a pocketknife in both form and function. Designed by Paul Alexander, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and a lifelong knife enthusiast, the Ikuchi (pronounced ee-koo-chee and named after a mythical Japanese sea monster) has an elegantly curved handle crafted with full, skeletonized stainless steel liners and stunning carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales.

In the closed position, the handle’s narrow, open-backed profile completely contains the knife’s blade—except for a small textured section of the tang that serves as a flipper opener. Stroking this section of the blade with an index finger or thumb provides leverage to swiftly pivot it into the open position, where locks securely via Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock™ mechanism. The satin-finished CPM® S30V® stainless steel blade is full-flat ground for exceptional edge geometry and cutting performance and has an acute, scalpel-like point for detailed work.

To ensure discreet carry while keeping the Ikuchi instantly accessible, its handle includes a low-profile, deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left or right-side tip-up carry.

    I received this knife from CS yesterday, and my first impression is that it is perfect for EDC. The shape and weight will make it literally disappear in your pocket until you need it, and you get a lot of blade for the size. Unique flipping mechanism will take a bit of getting used to but stays out of the way, which is one of the reasons I purchased this knife.

    As always, service was exceptional for this purchase. I received the knife faster from CS across the country than I do from many knife stores that are within a couple hours drive from where I live.

    I highly recommend both CS and this knife, and I hope it stays in Spyderco’s lineup for a long time. Just in case it doesn’t, I am considering purchasing a second one when I can.

    A very nice front flipper from Spyderco. Closed detent is strong enough to not come open as a Gravity knife. Knife is a little small for me, other than that I am very pleased. By the way, after multiple purchases from CSI I think they will be my go to knife shop, they are fast and very well packed. I buy 40 or 50 knives a year from many places and I know what poor service, slow shipping and lazy packing is all to common in the knife world. Thanks for the great customer service CSI!

    Another great design from Paul Alexander. It was worth the wait and lives up to the hype. The knife deploys quickly and smoothly and the blade is razor sharp right out of the box. Taichung has done their usual fine work - the fit and finish on the knife is extraordinary. Very well done.
