Spyderco Smock C240CFP - CPM-S30V Blade - Black Carbon Fiber/G-10 Laminate Handle

**LATEST CQI VERSION - MAIN PHOTO SHOWN IN OLD VERSION**

One of Spyderco's most anticipated new folders, the Smock certainly lives up to the hype. Kevin Smock is an award-winning industrial designer who is turning heads with his visionary handcrafted custom knives. Based on his SK23 custom folder, the Spyderco Smock translates his innovative style into a premium-quality production folder.

Its hollow-ground blade is precision machined from CPM® S30V® stainless steel and includes both a Trademark Round Hole™ and an elegantly understated flipper opener. The flipper action is supported by a pair of special ball-bearing pivot washers and a dedicated secondary detent mechanism separate from the knife's lock. It is paired with a skeletonized handle featuring full stainless steel liners, textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales, lightweight, open-backed construction, and a reversible, tip-up pocket clip for ambidextrous carry.

Beautifully executed, the Smock’s most unique feature is the button release on its high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which allows the knife to be safely and easily closed without placing your fingers near the blade’s edge. Slim, innovative and distinctly different, the Smock truly reflects Kevin Smock's unique approach to knifemaking.

    Smock -- The best Spyderco?

Posted by Marc from Bartlett on Feb 3rd 2023

Just an overall excellent knife, but the button release for the compression lock is what sets it apart. Right out of the box: super smooth, very sharp, excellent fit & finish. In my eyes, the only way they could make this knife better is with better scales (I don't like the holes & overlay C/F - scale swap imminent...) and perhaps different steel choices, though there's absolutely nothing wrong with S30v. But the button release... it just takes this to another level in terms of ease of use and safety. I hate "blade bounce" when closing a knife, and the 2nd detent on the Smock solves that for me. Also: no sore fingers (lol). And, of course, it has the compression lock. It's simply a great knife, and my personal favorite. Highly recommended!

    The BEST Spyderco...

Posted by Marc on Jan 30th 2023

As far as I'm concerned, this is the best knife Spyderco is currently producing (2023). The compression lock is solid, but the button release is what makes it perfect. S30V is fine, and other steels are certainly welcomed in the future, as are other choice(s) in scales, but that's about the only way you can make this knife better. Four S's: Sleek, smooth, solid, sharp. Fidget if you want, but this is a working knife - don't doubt it.

This has quickly become my favorite Spyderco. The action is amazing and makes it very hard to put down.

    A lot of fun

Essentially a $162 razor sharp fidget toy. It's a great knife. You can flick it open via pointer or middle finger and the flipper tab or slow roll it. If you remove the second detent ball, you can find it open and drop close it.
Handle is VERY grippy. Perhaps too grippy.

    It was worth the wait!

This is one of the most anticipated Spydercos in recent memory and I think it lives up to the hype. The Taichung factory has done their usual great work: fit and finish are amazing. The knife is easy to deploy, razor sharp and feels good in hand. Congrats to Spyderco and Kevin Smock on a job well done.
