Spyderco C152GPY Chaparral - CTS-XHP Blade - Gray FRN Handle

Chaparral. A very cool name we must admit. Though to many of us the chaparral is a lowly scrub bush that's as ubiquitous as dirt once you leave paved roads out west, the Spyderco Chaparral is quite an amazing knife. Chaparral has a tenacity to survive, revive and regenerate after being destroyed by drought or fire deeming it something to respect. It's also what Spyderco calls a new and continuing series of gentlemen's folders, with new and more interesting offerings to come.

One of the newest additions to this best-selling family is the Chaparral Lightweight. It offers the same design theme and functionality as its brothers, but with a simple, reliable, and affordable injection-molded handle. Its tough fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) construction minimizes weight and offers the high-traction advantages of the Bi-Directional Texturing™ pattern, while its nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners ensure excellent structural strength and precise alignment of all key components. Like the other versions of the Chaparral, its defining features include a full-flat-ground CTS® XHP stainless steel blade, a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ for ambidextrous one-handed opening, a sturdy back lock mechanism, and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip that supports discreet left or right-side tip-up carry.

    Perfect EDC

The Chaparral feels and functions like the perfect EDC folder. It is not too big and not too small. This knife disappears in a front pocket even when wearing gym shorts and due to it's light weight (2.1oz), it is easy to forget it's there at all. Of all of the Spyderco knives I own, this one feels the most solid, perhaps because of the back spacer that runs to the back of the handle. It is thin and the blade is also thin. Not a knife for opening paint cans but will cut and slice all day and the next. The CTS-XHP is a very good all-round steel known for excellent edge retention while still being fairly easy to sharpen. This steel boasts 16 pct Chromium and .08 pct Molybdenum making it quite corrosion resistant. Came razor sharp out of the box! The FRN handle is textured perfectly and feels great in hand. The handle ergonomics supply a good four finger choke grip and three and a half finger slicing grip with medium-large hands. My new favorite EDC. Cutlery Shoppe came through with mega-fast shipping.

    Spyderco Chaparral

I make custom knives and am a little bit of a steel snob so when decided i wanted a smaller pocket knife i searched through all of Spyderco's offerings and let me tell you i am very happy with the CTS-XHP steel. It sharpens relatively easy to a very keen edge, by far my favorite stainless steel i have used.

Cutlery Shoppe offers great service and if i ever get a notion of another production knife i will be first seeing if it is offered through this great company.
