Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight C101PBL2 - CTS-BD1N Blade - Translucent Blue FRCP Handles

The translucent blue Manix 2 Lightweight is a knife that seems to defy the laws of physics. Weighing in at just under three ounces, yet it packs the performance of knives weighing two or three times as much. The result is you have the advantage of a full sized knife without the weight.

American made and proud of it, the Manix 2 Lightweight features an FFG (full flat grind) blade crafted from CTS BD1N stainless steel. This advanced particle metallurgy steel is enriched with a high vanadium content to promote the formation of hard vanadium carbides instead of chromium carbides. Explained more plainly, this enhances the steel’s wear resistance and edge retention, while also providing superior corrosion resistance.

Blade deployment is super fast thanks to Spyderco’s signature Trademark Round Hole™ for easy, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The blade is supported by a high-strength Ball Bearing Lock™ housed within a precision-machined steel insert in the handle. The durable FRCP (fiberglass reinforced co-polymer) handle includes a molded Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern to ensure a secure grip in even the most demanding environments. A reversible wire clip provides left or right side tip-up carry and makes the operation and carry completely ambidextrous.

    manix2 lightweight Spyderco

Not very often I get a product that is everything I was hoping for. If I had to find a negative it would be the ball lock/release is a bit stiff, but I think it's going to loosen up a bit. I'm glad I made the purchase........ Ric

the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight is a great choice EDC. I really like the translucent style of the knife. The ergos, the texture, and the length of blade is really good. the lock up is tight--again this is a great choice. buying from the Cutlery Shoppe is always an excellent experience

Came hair-shaving sharp with smooth action. Feels good in hand and extremely lightweight. Nice balance with easy to use clip.

Knife was delivered quickly. This knife came “hair shaving sharp” and broke in too. “ drop shutty” in a couple of days. I’m very satisfied with the knife, delivery and price!

    Great, almost perfect

Fantastic blade. Carries light. I like the BD1 steel- takes an edge very well (very comparable to vg10), and it has a great almost stonewashed finish. Centering and action we're perfect.
The see through blue is super cool for the handle scales. See through orange would be the business! I'm looking at you CutleryShoppe SFO guy. For real- more see through colors, Spyderco.
If the texturing on the backstrap and the part near the blade-well we're more like the delica/endura- it would be perfect. It has some molded in jimping, but where the jimping is missing, it feels pretty slick. If you like a larger EDC blade, any variant of the Manix Lightweight will fit the bill. CutleryShoppe is an awesome retailer, and is my first choice for knives.

    My Daily EDC

Posted by Ed Capps on Dec 11th 2014

After having this knife for 10 months now I feel I can give it a honest review and can say you nailed it on the review Nutnfancy!

This has to be one of the most comfortable folders I've ever owned. Its ridiculously light, Spyderco out did themselves on this one!

I did about all the research on this blade that I possibly could before finally making the purchase, including contacting Jeff till he was probably tired of hearing from me. I was unsure about the color since I had only seen it in pictures but it doesn’t disappoint! Dark blue indoors and translucent blue in the light. I am not usually a huge fan of wire clips and initially I thought pocket clip looked flimsy, but it's very strong and slides right into your pocket with ease and provides just the right amount of retention while being easy to remove from carry.

I have carried a folding knife every day for the last 24 years. Most of that time, my folder has been a Spyderco Delica or a Benchmade Mini Grip. The Manix 2 has replaced them, the scales have great grip and traction but do not shred your pants. The BD-1 steel takes an excellent edge and holds it well and resharpens easily. I have owned many quality folders, but I am completely serious when I say this is my favorite folding knife ever.

Thank you Cutlery Shoppe for offering yet another great product at a great price with great service. 5 stars and beyond!!!

You nailed it on that review Nutnfancy! This has to be one of the most comfortable folders I've ever owned. Its ridiculously light, the handles are grippy and it opens and closes perfectly straight out of the box plus the blade lock is great considering I'm a lefty. Spyderco out did themselves on this one!

    Awesome blade

Wow, what a beautiful knife. Really a conversation piece. A can't believe how light it is. I've never had a lock like this, but I really like. It locks up hard! The BD1 steel takes a wicked edge. It will shave hair like nobody's business. The jimping is perfect and the choil gives you a perfect grip. At first I thought pocket clip looked flimsy, but it's not, it's very strong and slides right onto your pocket with ease. Really, this thing is awesome and a steal of a deal. Well done Eric!

    Lightweight Heavy Hitter

Manix 2 LW first impressions.....Awesome! The knife is flawless. I've done just about all the research on this blade that I possibly could before finally pulling the trigger on it. I was unsure about the color since I've only seen it in pictures, but rest assured that the blue FRCP scales are beautiful (and very functional). Dark blue in doors and translucent blue in the sun. The pivot is now adjustable on this model as opposed to its first runs back in 2010 that were manufactured with non-adjustable pins, which is a huge PLUS. I suggest using Locktite on the screws after finding the knife's sweetspot to avoid them loosening up on you. The locking mechanism may take a little getting use to if you've never owned a knife with a ball bearing lock, but with a little practice you can easily deploy and disengage the blade with one hand, and it is completely ambidextrous (another plus). The lock is also one of the strongest and safest locks that Spyderco has produced considering that your fingers are much less likely to be in the way of the blade as it closes when you compare it to a liner lock or backlock. The extreme light weight, balanced feel, and lockup of this knife is unreal for its size and what you're paying. After researching over 2 years of reviews about CTS-BD1 steel before purchasing the knife, I've found that it performs more than adequately in my cutting tasks. The ingredients in this knife's recipe make it a superb EDC/Emergency Tactical tool and is not designed to disappoint. However, this model is not designed for hard use, but can definitely hold its own against the much heavier and fully lined Manix 2 in terms of being a lighter weight alternative to an already awesome and proven knife design. Thank you Cutlery Shoppe for offering yet another great product at a great price with great service. 5 stars and beyond!!!
