Spyderco C101PBK2 Manix 2 Lightweight - CTS-BD1N - Black FRCP Handle

Spyderco's Manix 2 Lightweights seem to defy the laws of physics. Weighing in at just under three ounces, yet packing the performance of knives weighing two or three times as much. The result is you have the advantage of a full sized knife without the weight.

American made and proud of it, the Manix 2 Lightweight features an FFG (full flat grind) blade crafted from CTS-BD1N stainless steel. This advanced particle metallurgy steel is enriched with a high vanadium content to promote the formation of hard vanadium carbides instead of chromium carbides. Explained more plainly, this enhances the steel’s wear resistance and edge retention, while also providing superior corrosion resistance.

Blade deployment is super fast thanks to Spyderco’s signature Trademark Round Hole™ for easy, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The blade is supported by a high-strength Ball Bearing Lock™ housed within a precision-machined steel insert in the handle. The durable FRCP (fiberglass reinforced co-polymer) handle includes a molded Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern to ensure a secure grip in even the most demanding environments. A reversible wire clip provides left or right side tip-up carry and makes the operation and carry completely ambidextrous.

    This is my dream knife!

Posted by Dustin Gray on Oct 17th 2015

I have collected many knives from Spyderco, Emerson, Benchmade, ZT, etc. I used to have a G10 version of this knife. Manix 2. I always was curious to try the lightweight. I am glad I finally ordered one. This knife is very lightweight, about half the G10. The clip is awesome, deep carry clip. I love the height of the blade, the thumbhole is very accessible. The ball bearing lock is SO strong! It snaps into place very firm. I loved the Axis lock but this is even better. Also the new Torx pivot looks and feels great. Cutlery Shoppe shipped quick and are great at communication. I will be ordering more blades! Thanks!

    Light weight multipurpose knife

Posted by Ronel Ordona on Sep 24th 2013

This is my daily driver. I use it as a utility knife, food prep, and for self defense. This knife is so light for its size, I forget that its in my pocket. Quick deployment and great ergos. I did not like the translucent blue so I went with black for low profile purposes. Thank you Cutleryshoppe.com for the EXTREMELY FAST free shipping and supporting TNPers as well with awesome prices. You just cant beat this site period. This is my go to knife shop.

    manix 2 in black frcp

Posted by Matthew Kastner on Apr 21st 2013

I now own what I believe to be the essential spydercos: delica and endura ffg, paramilitary 2, sage 2, and manix 2 frcp in black. I love to support US manufacturing and appreciate both my Colorado spyderco's. The pm2 is perfect, the manix has a lot of good things for the 70 dollar price, half what I paid for my S35VN pm2. The shape of the handle is perfect, the frcp choil locks my hand in. The high polish that the bd-1 steel comes in is gorgeous. The ball lock is solid but the frcp grips on the ball feel and look a little cheap (large mold lines). I say this with an axis lock in mind, which has been much easier for me to actuate and much more comfortable. As for quality and feel the manix 2 leaves a little to be desired compared to it's counterparts: the radius on the frn delica and endura is more hand friendly, the clip on the sage 2 is loop over and carries much better. Integrate those couple features and the manix 2 lightweight would be perfect for me.
I limit this product to three stars because I feel like spyderco could offer more value for 70-85 dollars depending on where you buy it. The kershaw piston, which I bought for 60, comes with very well shaped g10. It does lack jimping but the g10 feels much better in hand than FRCP. Both are lightweight and don't have steel lined handles. Got the manix for the ffg blade, still glad I did, just leaves me wanting a little more.
