Spyderco C81GPDGY2 Para Military 2 - Maxamet Blade - Dark Gray G-10 Handle

We've all heard the expression "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, at Spyderco it doesn't quite work that way as they are constantly improving their products. It's so much a part of their corporate culture that they've coined a term for it: C.Q.I., which is an acronym for "Constant Quality Improvement. If Spyderco can refine or improve on the ergonomics of a design, or a way to get more cutting performance from one of their knives, change it they do! The last major "overhaul" of the Para Military pattern was back in 2010. At that time they narrowed the profile of the handle, making it more comfortable in the hand as well as the pocket.

This latest Para 2 features a blade crafted from Carpenter® steel's Micro-Melt® Maxamet® alloy. Maxamet is an extremely hard high-speed powdered tool steel possessing properties that transcend conventional high-speed tool steels and approach those of cemented carbides - the ultra-hard materials used to machine other steels. When Carpenter developed this amazing alloy for the rollers in their steel mills, they sent samples to various companies in the knife industry to evaluate as a blade material. Although many tried, Spyderco was one of only a handful of companies to successfully develop the specialized methods necessary to machine, heat treat, and grind this demanding material to yield reliable, high-performance knife blades.

Like all Spyderco knives with Maxamet blades, the textured G-10 handle scales of this version of the Para Military 2 sport a distinctive dark gray color. They are also home to a four-position hourglass clip that supports left and right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry.

The results is a Para Military 2 that's made with pride in their Golden, Colorado factory.

At first I was thinking of getting the standard pm2 but it's not available anywhere so I took a chance with the Maxamet steel, I'm sure glad that I did this is now my favorite EDC and I own the pm3 in spy27 and 2 manix light weight

Very nice fit and finish. The maxamet steel is pretty cool looking and gets a nice patina. Very comfortable ergonomics

    another great pm2

Posted by Micah on Oct 25th 2020

this is my third pm2 (first was s110v, second was m390). wonderful ergonomics, the compression lock is a lot of fun to use, and the blade design seems like it can handle anything. and maxamet steel holds an amazing edge in a way that almost doesn't make sense. definitely a steel you need to try. however one thing to keep in mind is the stonewash on the current maxamet pm2s is different and a little darker. I have a para 3 in maxamet that is stonewashed as well, but the finish is brighter than this pm2. overall i'm glad that i snagged one while they were available.
