More about 420HC steel:
This is Buck's standard blade material because it approaches the wear resistance of high carbon alloys while delivering the corrosion resistance of chromium stainless steels. Using their exclusive heat-treat process and you have a very user-friendly combination of superior corrosion resistance with excellent strength for wear resistance and durability. You also have a blade that is easy to resharpen. For best performance Buck hardens their 420HC blades to a Rockwell hardness of Rc 58.

    Worth every penny.

This is my first Buck fixed blade and I'm blown away. Seems like a great size for every day carry to complement a folding pocket knife. Works great for food prep and I imagine it would be perfect for hiking and camping as well as hunting. This is starting to become my second favorite knife next to my kershaw skyline and I have owned close to 100 knives. It's light for its size, not to large or small, perfect proportions and great sheath. For a knife made in the USA at this price, I feel stupid for not trying one 10 years ago. Very similar in size to the Kabar USMC short but a bit better in refinement and sheath for edc. Better price also.

Terrific, sturdy hunting knife. Slick when wet.
