Spyderco Native 5 C41POR5 - CPM-S90V Blade - Orange FRN Handle

Our longtime customers and collectors know we have a "thing" for orange, which is an addiction that many of our customers seem to share. This latest Cutlery Shoppe exclusive, our first on the Native platform, is the result of many customer requests.

Blade deployment is super fast thanks to Spyderco's signature Trademark Round Hole™ for easy, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The Native 5 Lightweight features an FFG (full flat grind) blade crafted from premium CPM S90V stainless steel. This advanced particle metallurgy steel is enriched with a high vanadium content to promote the formation of hard vanadium carbides instead of chromium carbides. Explained more plainly, this enhances the steel’s wear resistance and edge retention, while also providing superior corrosion resistance.

Since first introduced in 1997, the Native has been a mainstay of the Spyderco product line and a flagship of their American-made stable of knives. The design has evolved steadily over the years, reaching its current state of the art in 2012 with the release of the Native 5. The latest addition to the Native lineage is the Native5 Lightweight, which combines the Native5's engineering refinements with the weight-saving advantages of an injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle. The linerless FRN handle features Bi-Directional Texturing™ for an ultra-secure grip and reduces the overall weight of the knife to a scant 2.4 ounces. The handle also houses four sets of threaded inserts molded directly into the FRN. These allow the improved hourglass clip to be positioned for left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry. A generously sized lanyard hole also provides a handy attachment point for lanyards, fobs, and safety lines.

    Sub $100 S90V Folder!

Posted by Ken Lunde on Mar 19th 2018

Wow! I ordered two of these stunners, and am glad that I did, because I have been carrying/using it for a few months now. It is a near-perfect EDC size, easy to deploy, and weighs almost nothing. The best part is that you get a high-quality folding knife with a CPM-S90V blade for less than $100. Buy two. You'll be glad that you did. I also bought a pair of the DLC Black versions, though I have a slight preference for this one.

Spyderco Native 5 s90v Orange FRN handle

Posted by Eric on Feb 24th 2018

I received my knife super quick and well packed (5 stars on that). Within a couple of days of starting to break in the operation the backlock seemed to bind slightly for a few operations and then a rattle developed. Figured it was going to have to go back then realized the screw immediately in back of the backlock mechanism had come loose. Got out my torx and re-tightened and have had no problems since. I have this knife in both a carbon fiber and g-10 version and i like them better (5 stars) so the FRN only gets 4 stars from me. Still a great knife and if you want high viz orange this exclusive is the only way to get it!!! I'm glad these knife retailers do these exclusives. This will round out my small collection of Native 5 Spyderco's.

    Orange/S90V Native 5

My first Spyderco - which I bought 'way back' in about 2001 - was a Native. I've been bitten by both the Native and Spyderco bugs ever since. This version is now one of my favorites, coming in an awesome steel and a great color of FRN. In the words of Ferris Bueller:
"It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

CS Exclusive Orange S90V Native 5 Lightweight Rocks!

Posted by Andrew on Jan 12th 2018

Without question, the knife I received is every bit as well finished as a Chris Reeve Sebenza, minus the feeling of titanium. The blade is ground perfectly with symmetrical swedge, there's no blade play, and the action on this lockback is so smooth that it free drops a little. Do yourself a favor and buy one if you want a knife to USE.

I have carried the Native 5 with a CPM-S35VN blade for quite some time. I like the Orange handle and upgraded CPM-S90-V even better! The high-visibility handle make it easy to find in the outdoors. This is the perfect EDC knife for me, quality materials, sturdy build yet lightweight, movable clip with a lanyard hole and great in-the-hand feel. I highly recommend this Spyderco model!

    Spyderco C41POR5 Native 5-Orange handle

Brought this from Cutlery Shoppe a few weeks ago....I like the Native as a EDC knife and this edition makes it even better. From where you can put the clip to the great orange handles, perfect size. AND, the blade steel is incredible! Super sharp out of the box! I have used this knife for a couple of weeks now, from cleaning white perch to just using it for opening boxes to cutting cord and rope, and I've just had to touch it up slightly with a diamond stone. Also, the fit and finish are top notch. Lock up is SOLID. I brought another one to put away (collect) because of how great it is and because I love ORANGE!! I have a custom knife that may be a little sharper..... But it cost ten times what this Native did! So this is a no brainer. A really great knife. Thank you Jeff and Spyderco.
