Spyderco Schempp Bowie - CPM-S30V Blade - Carbon Fiber/G-10 Laminate Handle

Designed by renowned custom knifemaker Ed Schempp, Spyderco’s Schempp Bowie honors the iconic American Bowie Knife by expressing it as a modern, high-performance folder. Its distinctive blade faithfully retains the broad profile, long belly, and concave clip point of the classic Bowie pattern, but renders them in premium CPM® S30V® powdered metallurgy stainless steel. The high flat grind and full-thickness spine offer an exceptional synthesis of strength and low-friction edge geometry, while Spyderco’s Trademark Round Hole™ ensures swift, positive, one-handed opening with either hand.

The Schempp Bowie’s handle blends tradition and state-of-the-art materials by combining skeletonized full stainless steel liners, carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales, a solid steel backspacer, and classic brass bolsters. The bolsters include a subtle but functional integral double guard and are mated to the scales with a meticulously machined dovetail joint. The classic “coffin-shaped” handle has a slightly “dropped” angle to allow a natural wrist angle during use. This subtle detail shortens the blade’s opening arc, increases cutting power, reduces fatigue, and instinctively orients the point with the axis of the forearm.

A stout LinerLock mechanism locks the blade securely when in use and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip provides instant access and exceptionally discreet tip-up carry. An amazing fusion of traditional style and state-of-the-art manufacturing and materials, Spyderco’s Schempp Bowie is a fitting tribute to one of America’s most revered cultural symbols.

Another Brilliant Design by Mr. Schempp

    Posted by BUshido185 on Mar 9th 2015

I was skeptical at first but decided after buying the Schempp Rock to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. Ed knows what he is doing when he designs these knives. Fit and finish is something you would see on high end customs. With the 20 degree decrease in the opening arc the blade pops out fast. The knife handle fits nicely in the palm of my hand for forward strikes and the carbon fiber laminate is gorgeous. The liner lock works well but can be a bit difficult to manipulate with the end on my thumb, so I recommend using your thumbnail when closing. This is my first Taiwan made Spyderco and the Taichung factory definitely lives up to their reputation of being one of the best in the world.

    Get this Bowie folder!

Posted by Mike on Feb 23rd 2015

Arrived today. It may become one of my new favorites. It's a fairly hefty folder and on the large side with a 3.72" blade. It has a wire clip, which carries deep compared to the traditional clip. So, it remains nicely concealable and stealthy in the pocket. The bolsters are brass, so I'm not sure how they'll hold up in terms of tarnishing. But, that's a minor matter. I have always liked carbon fiber scales. And, they contrast nicely with the brass bolsters.

    The action is very smooth.

I dare say this is not a NKP or sheeple-friendly knife. It's got an aggressive look, no doubt. And, that makes me smile.

Of course, it came "hair-popping" sharp.

If you're a Spyderco fan... If you're a Schempp fan... If you like a knife that makes you say (with Aussie accent), "THIS is a knife!"... Pick up one of these bad boys!
