Spyderco Endura 4 Lightweight C10ZFPOR - HAP40/SUS410 Laminated Blade - ZOME Orange/Black FRN Handle

Cutlery Shoppe's latest exclusive, the Spyderco Endura 4 Zome combines a brilliant pattern of orange and black with all the other defining features of this best-selling model. Since Spyderco first showed us a prototype of the ZOME handle models they were looking to make, we knew we had to have one in orange/black.

Rather than just offer "our" ZOME with an orange/black handle, we decided to go "all out" and have Spyderco build them with a full-flat-ground HAP40/SUS410 laminated blade. This upgrade truly makes this ZOME stand out.

Standard features of the Endura 4 lightweight included is the well known solid back lock mechanism, a reversible deep-pocket four-way pocket clip that supports left or right-side tip-up carry. An amazing fusion of traditional artistry and modern factory production, this Endura 4 Lightweight ZOME is a practical everyday cutting tool with one-of-a-kind character.

More about HAP40 Blade Steel:
HAP40 is a powder metallurgy high-speed tool steel made by Hitachi Metals Ltd. of Japan. It is well known in Japan and used in high end cutlery, due to its excellent balance of hardness, toughness and edge retention.

More about ZOME:
Zome (pronounced "zoh-may") is a classical Japanese method of dyeing textiles that is closely related to many aspects of that country’s culture and history. Inspired by this rich artistic heritage, Spyderco's Zome family of knives includes unique hand-dyed variations of popular lightweight models with injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handles. The handles of these knives are first molded in a light base color, and then individually hand dyed by expert Japanese artisans using a technique reminiscent of traditional hiki-zome (brush dyeing). In this painstaking method, various colors of dye are hand brushed onto the handle to create distinctive, one-of-a-kind patterns that permeate the FRN material.

    First Endura, total success

Perfect service from CS with fast delivery to France. Was looking for something special after having waiting too long to get my first endura. This one is crazy cool with that scales, blade and edge are perfect, aligned and extremely sharp. That nice crisp and extremely bitty sharpness you get on these kind of steels... terrific.

My first purchase from Cutlery Shoppe, and first experience with HAP40. Very satisfied. Flawless blade and centering, and I'm enjoying the scales more than I thought I would. Have always enjoyed the Delica, and wish I'd gotten this sooner.
You get a great lightweight knife with steel comparable to M4 at a great price. Shipping was fast, as many other reviews mention. Looking forward to future Cutlery Shoppe exclusives.

This zome Hap40 Endura is exactly what I wanted. Stays sharp, tough as nails, light in the pocket. Cutlery Shoppe hand picked one out with a few criteria I mentioned, included a few goodies, and got it here lightning fast. Extremely happy with the knife and whole ordering experience. Absolutely first rate!

Endura w/ Orange and Black Zome

Posted by Sam Hicks on Aug 6th 2019

I get it--the colors might take a while to get used to but the blade steels and the great fit and finish will hold your attention until you warm up to the unique styling. Another positive is the customer service. I ordered my knife late on a Friday afternoon and it at my P.O. before noon on Monday!

This is far one of the greatest knives ever made in my opinion. The HAP40 steel, which I mainly got the knife for since I was curious of it's performance, is incredible. At a very high hardness of 65-66 HRC I believe, it holds an edge for a very long time. Furthermore it takes an incredibly fine edge, scary sharp is an understatement. The great thing about this steel is that it's edge is also incredibly aggressive. While it takes that fine razor edge, I've noticed it loses that very fine phone book paper push cutting edge fairly quickly compared to other steel but holds an absolutely amazing working edge forever. Because it has a lot of aggressive carbides in it, even when the edge no longer shaves hair it will still slice cardboard like butter. It also is very easy to sharpen, and strops back to a razor edge very very easily. I am an electrician and have been carrying the knife on the job for at least a couple months now. The first task was slicing through hundreds of feet of cardboard (opening the boxes for all the light fixtures for a whole school), and have since used it to cut lots of rope, strip lots of large sized copper wires (the copper is much softer than this tool steel so it doesn't damage the edge at all!), cut some extremely high density floor protecting cardboard (Ramboard), cut lots of multi-layered electrical tape and other things. I also do some light wood processing with it at home sometimes (for longer duration or heavy wood processing I like a knife with a wider handle, but the handle is extremely ergonomic and slim so it is barely noticeable at all in my pocket during the work day). This steel is very impressive, I can't get over it, even when it feels dull and won't catch on my thumbnail anymore or pushcut paper, it will still slice through any matertial I have thrown at it like butter as long as the edge us running through it, it maintains that aggressive working edge for a long time and is very tough, so the edge really doesn't get damaged by much at all. Every week for two months now, after all that, I have stropped it back to a razor edge 2-3 times per week and that hair popping edge is still coming back like nothing! I like the orange scales also, as with my darker knives I often set it down next to me while I'm working and lose sight of it then have to look around for a little. I never lose sight of this one, even out of the corner of my eye. I like that every single knife is hand painted I individually too. The orange is bold for many I'm sure, but it is absolutely perfect for when visibility is needed for it (work, camping/backpacking, lower light situations, etc). It is an absolute pleasure to use, nice tight lockup, and the other day I whipped it out to cut apart some bug wires that had been firmly taped together my coworker said "show off. My razor knife went even do that."
