Gryphon M-10 FFG Utility-Boot Knife - M10FFG

Since Bob Terzuola, or "Bob T" as I call him, first showed me his prototype for what we would later dub the M-10, I was thrilled by its straight-forward design. I believed then, and still do, that it's the finest fixed blade knife in its size range. The M-10 falls into that "just right" category of being large enough to accomplish most tasks, yet small enough to be carried with ease. The handle fits your hand perfectly, whichever grip you choose. It's obvious that fixed blade knives, by their very nature, are stronger and safer than folding knives. The downside of fixed blade knives has always been their difficulty to conceal, and the negative attention they can bring. That problem is solved with the M-10 and its "just right" size. The full tang blade is given a black DLC (Diamond Like Coating) coating to reduce glare and for extra blade protection in harsh environments. The indestructible handle is made from DuPont Zytel, which is checkered to give you a positive gripping surface.

So many good knives are limited by the inadequacies of their sheaths. I'm a firm believer that a sheath should not only protect the knife from loss and the elements, but it should also protect its owner. One more factor to consider is how comfortable is it to carry, and how reliably can it be deployed under stress. This quest has led me to the best sheath makers available, and we've teamed up with three of the best in the business.

The sheath for this version is made by SheathPro, and they're using .080 Boltaron (PVC Rigid Plastic) for the sheath. Each SheathPro sheath is built by hand, and not the normal "cookie cutter" sheaths you see elsewhere. The quality is top-notch, and while you may not have realized it, you've probably seen their work before, as they make many of the fixed blade sheaths for Spyderco.

Easy to carry, and quick to deploy, the M-10 in its SheathPro sheath attaches to your belt via the Spyderco G-Clip. Should you prefer to attach to a harness or pack, you can use the G-Clip or simply remove it and lash directly onto your gear. Given all of these features, or better yet, get one in your hand and you'll see why the Gryphon M-10 is still my personal favorite! Jeff

    Gryphon M10

Posted by Adam W. on Jul 30th 2024

The existing M10 reviews are not hyperbole ... this knife is perfect. Quality fit and finish, beautiful sheath, and the utmost functionality for an EDC blade. Reminiscent of the Seki Japan Seal Pup, the M10 can be deployed as a general purpose knife or self defense tool. Bob Terzuola design ensures practicality in hand, and Cutlery Shoppe pricing makes the M10 a must buy. I have owned knives from Winkler, RMJ, Spyderco, Emerson, etc. and the Gryphon M10 is comparable to all of them. Thank you, Jeff for offering this outstanding knife at such an affordable price. I will be adding a second M10 soon.

Purchase while you still can. These won't be available forever. You get so much knife for the money it's not even funny. Not to mention Cutleryshoppe is an amazing company and Jeff is the man!

    Don’t miss your shot

I typically EDC a Dynamis blade. I’ve been curious about these for some time and am very pleased. The handle is ergonomic, slender, and comfortable with plenty of texturing. The handle texture does not irritate bare skin for me when carried IWB. The blade is thicker than I expected and the blade height is smaller than I expected, the entire knife is sleek. It came shaving sharp with good geometry and grinds. Jimping on top of the blade is functional and sharp enough to keep the thumb in place on the spine. It has a good sheath with G clip. I will likely make a taco style sheath for appendix carry but the included pancake sheath carries very well in 3 and 9 o clock positions. It’s a great package for edc or defense at a good price. I wish the original hollow ground version and M30A1 were still available if this is a standard example of the quality and product line. Might just have to get a second one.

    Gryphon M10FFG

I received my M10FFG yesterday. As usual, The Cutlery Shoppe team provided excellent service. The knife shipped 2 hours after I ordered it! I bought the regular M10 back in 2018. It was really nice, but I traded it for something else. Now that I am older and only have knives I use on a regular basis, I won't do that with this FFG version. I examined the knife this morning. I could not find any defects in the knife or sheath. The spine is thick enough all the way to the tip to make this a tough knife. The spear point blade make the tip useful for scoring or cutting, and you get a lot of cutting edge for a 4 inch knife. The VG-10 core is thick enough to provide a lifetime's worth of proper sharpening; I use a Spyderco Sharpmaker. The knife would slice paper right from the box. We are doing more hiking now, and I bought the M10 to carry on the trail. The M10 reminds me of my Martin 00-15m guitar. They both provide outstanding value for the money.

    Perfection!

Posted by JT on Feb 2nd 2021

Awesome knife! I think I finally found my perfect general usage/camp knife. The handle is well thought out and locks in the hand nicely. No hot spots. Feels good in all the bushcrafty carving positions. Even the jimping on the spine is in the perfect spot. Great size for edc around the farm too. Will be buying a couple more as gifts soon.

    Great EDC

This is a light balanced fixed blade knife. The knife is thick and has nice ‘jimping’. The VG10 is also very sharp. The Sheath is light, tough and perfectly fits in many configurations. Lastly the price point is terrific for what you get in a complete package. I would highly recommend this knife.
