Gryphon Knives M-35 Combat Survival Bowie - 7.5" AUS-8A Bowie Blade - Kydex Sheath w/Malice Clips

The Gryphon Knives M-35 Combat Survival Bowie was designed to be a rugged, yet affordable knife. Reminiscent of the classic Randall Knives Model 14 Attack, the Gryphon M-35 is well suited for use as a field, camp, survival, and if need be - a combat knife. The razor sharp 7.5" bowie style blade features a generous choil for extra blade control during close-up work. The blade steel is Japanese AUS-8A, which is well proven since first made popular in the 1980's. The shock-absorbing Kraton handle is deeply checkered for a dependable non-slip grip. Its full-length tang is exposed for added strength and versatility. Each M-35 includes a friction-fit black Kydex sheath that's outfitted with two Tactical Tailor Malice clips for belt or pack attachment. This rugged sheath is custom made for the M-35 by Survival Sheath Systems.

More about AUS-8A steel:
The words "stainless steel" are misleading, because, in fact, all steel will stain or show discoloration if left in adverse conditions for a sufficient time. Steel is made "stainless" by adding chromium and reducing its carbon content during the smelting process. There is a serious performance trade-off with stainless steel. As the chromium increases and the carbon decreases, the steel becomes more "stainless". But, it also becomes more and more difficult to sharpen, and the edge-holding potential is seriously impaired. This is usually why most stainless knives are rarely razor-sharp and quickly lose what little edge they have. In contrast, Gryphon Knives uses AUS 8A Stainless, a high carbon, low chromium steel that has proven itself to be the ultimate compromise between toughness and strength, edge holding, and resistance to corrosion.

To say that I am very pleased with this knife is an understatement. The size is robust and, in my opinion, just right for a camp knife. I will probably carry it in my pack when hiking and camping. The knife has a VERY rugged feel and balances just ahead of the guard...should be a good chopper. Although it is large, it isn't overly heavy. I can't wait to try this one out on some heavy cutting. The single guard adds utility to the knife as a camp/utility knife. The blade shape and size is very similar to the Randall 14. The sheath is excellent and well-thought-out. I have some other pieces of Spec-ops brand gear and their stuff is always top-notch. This package is an amazing buy considering the quality of the knife and the superb sheath system and would still be a bargain at twice the price.
