Cold Steel 39LRST Recon Scout - O-1 Blade - Kray-Ex Handle - Secure-Ex Sheath

In almost every respect, the Recon Scout is simply a 7.5" inch Trail Master Bowie. It offers the same steel, heat treatment, blade thickness, blade shape, and handle.
Unlike other combat knives, the Recon Scout's broad clip point is highly resistant to bending or breaking. It's ideal for long range cutting and slashing. Additionally, the blade is equipped with a slightly concave false edge that measures approximately 3.5" long.

Like the Trail Master, the Recon Scout has a slight curve along the entire length of the blade. This curve allows the blade to be used in a draw cut as well as a chopping stroke. Plus, the extra curve near the tip provides plenty of "belly" for emergency field dressing and skinning.

The Recon Scout comes complete with a Secure-Ex sheath.

More about O-1 steel:
O-1 is a high carbon, oil hardening tool steel. The "O" stands for oil hardening. Popular with custom knife makers because of its versatility, it can be used for stock removal as well as forged knives and is often utilized for tomahawks and axes as well. With proper heat treatment, O-1 will take and hold a very fine edge while remaining remarkably tough and durable. Known for its ability to be differentially heat treated, O-1 is an ideal steel for edged weapons and tools and while more costly than SK-5, it is a decided step-up in performance.

    Great blade, great shop!

Posted by Chris P. on Jul 21st 2012

I ordered this knife after quite a bit of research. This being my first order with the Cutlery Shoppe, I looked around at my usual shopping sources (Amazon, etc.) first. I found my way to the Cutlery Shoppe via the nutnfancy project and am happy to report that the price, service, and most importantly product stock status were all accurate and excellent.

I ordered late in the day and the product was still shipped USPS the same day - even with a free shipping discount code! The knife arrived in perfect condition, exactly as advertised, after only 2 days. I'm enjoying putting it through it's first paces in the woods of MT and WY and so far it's working even better than expected. I was considering this knife vs. the larger trail master and am happy I went with the lighter option. It's big enough for any task I have for it - and for larger diameter cutting I use a lightweight Sawvivor 15 inch (also excellent and highly recommended).

All my future blade purchases will be from Cutlery Shoppe and I encourage you to support this customer service focused family business as well. As I said in my you tube comment - Cutlery Shoppe provides the kind of positive experience that is becoming more and more rare these days, especially online. Cutlery Shoppe is the USAA of knife shops. Thanks Cutlery Shoppe - keep up the good work!

    Excellent Knife... Excellent Purchase

Very impressed with this knife. Quality is unmatched in any outdoor knife I've previously owned. It's a great looking knife, for those who approve of the all-black appearance. The sheath has notches to secure it into place. Cutlery Shoppe had it on my doorstep within days... and, at the right price.
If you're looking for a hunting-knife replacement that will easily out-live any of the rest... the Recon Scout SK-5 would be my suggestion.
